Since 2003, UW undergraduates have worked with Seattle preschool children through the Jumpstart program. Jumpstart at the University of Washington was launched in September of 2003 as a collaborative effort between Undergraduate Academic Affairs, the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity, the College of Education, and the Work Study Office. Since 1993, Jumpstart has brought preschool children and college students together. What: Exposure and preview to standards at the rising grade-level using the Success Academy/Summer School Curriculum Who: Students enrolled in 3rd grade or 5th grade for the 2019-2020 school year Students will receive exposure to standards at the rising grade level using the Summer School Framework, setting them up for increased success during the 2019-2020 school year. Purpose: The Jumpstart for Success program will provide students who will be enrolled in 3rd and 5th grade during the 2019-2020 school year at selected schools an opportunity to engage in 9 days of instruction before the school year begins.

We can leverage this model to expose additional students to standards-based instruction prior to the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.
